Xylon logi3D Brings Graphics Capabilities to Xilinx ACAPs

At this year's embedded world 2021 digital show edition, Xylon has announced a new version of the company's logi3D Scalable 3D Graphics Accelerator IP core adapted for Xilinx® Versal™ Adaptive Compute Acceleration Platform (ACAP) devices.

Initially developed and introduced by Xylon as part of the company's logicBRICKS IP library in 2010, the logi3D is the key IP core for implementation of complete 3D Graphics Processing Units (GPU) in Xilinx ACAPs. This GPU fills the gap and provides applications with graphics capabilities integrated through the standard OpenGL ES 1.1. software API.

To demonstrate logi3D's capabilities, along with Xylon's other intellectual property for use with Xilinx programmable devices, Xylon has prepared several demonstrations. Currently available demos include the visualization of live LIDAR's cloud of points in the automotive heterogeneous sensory data processing demo and the car's 3D model integrated with a video processed from four high-resoution video cameras in Xylon's ViewMore™ Natural Surround View automotive parking assistance demo with the virtual flying camera.

Evaluation demo versions will be provided with the new release of the logiVID-ACAP ACAP Multi-Camera Vision Development Kit, which is planned for the beginning of 2Q21. This kit provides system designers with everything they need to efficiently develop multi-camera vision applications on Xilinx' Versal ACAPs. The hardware platform includes four Xylon 2.3 MP HDR automotive video cameras (logiCAM-GMSL2-AR0231) with an integrated ISP video processing pipeline and cabling, a 12-Ch GMSL2 video input FMC add-on card (logiFMC-GMSL2), and an HDMI video output FMC card. The logi3D IP core has a small footprint and enables efficient implementation in the smallest Versal ACAP device. It enables system designers to fully exploit heterogeneous computing and networking resources available on Xilinx's unique Adaptive Compute Acceleration Platform, and to round their design with graphics capability.

A combination of optional logi3D source code licensing and code portability, already proven through several generations and several types of Xilinx programmable devices, makes the logi3D GPU an attractive choice for markets that require full product control and live maintenance that span over decades, such as avionics, space, railroads and defense.

Xylon has already successfully implemented the Safety Critical (SC) profile compatible 3D GPU version in Xilinx' Zynq-7000 SoC, and it offers the logi3D based GPU with safety critical compatibility for Versal ACAPs available on request.
